Our Mission
At Open Horizons, we are committed to enriching the lives of special needs adults through life skills and social activities in the outdoors, the community and the home environment.
Open Horizons is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that began with two special needs parents looking for a different type of day habilitation program.
We believe that adults with intellectual and cognitive disabilities such as Autism, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and others should be able to enjoy life through enrichment activities such as spending time outdoors and exercising. We also believe animals and music therapy help us connect to others in a natural way.
The state of Texas allows individuals with developmental delays to attend public schooling only to the age of 18-22, depending on their cognitive level of abilities. Afterwards, many families struggle to find programs for their loved ones to keep active and engage in productive activity. We are based on five acres where the consumers can have unconfined space to be outdoors. We hope to help them continue their education and growth as individuals in a warm and open environment filled with productive activity.
